Role Overview
As a Research & Communications Officer, you’ll wear two hats: one as a researcher, supporting flagship initiatives like the State of Civil Society Report and CIVICUS Lens, and the other as a communicator, crafting strategies to ensure these insights resonate across media, digital, and visual platforms. Think of it as being the bridge between data and impact—a role that’s both analytical and creative.
Key Responsibilities
This role is a dynamic mix of tasks, including:
- Conducting, transcribing, and editing interviews with civil society leaders to capture their stories.
- Performing desk research to gather and verify information, ensuring CIVICUS publications are accurate and impactful.
- Designing media and social media strategies to amplify research findings.
- Pitching op-eds and story ideas to journalists, ensuring CIVICUS’s voice is heard in global conversations.
- Creating visual materials like infographics and social media toolkits to make complex issues accessible.
- Organizing webinars, report launches, and public events to engage audiences directly.
- Coordinating multilingual content production, working with designers, translators, and editors to reach a global audience.
Required Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
- A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, political science, international relations, or development studies.
- Proficiency in English and intermediate skills in French and/or Spanish.
- At least three years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with international civil society networks and intergovernmental institutions.
- A solid grasp of the global media landscape and social media dynamics.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in crafting and distributing social media messaging.
- The ability to simplify complex civic and political issues for diverse audiences.
- Basic design skills using tools like Canva or Piktochart.
