Breaking News in College Football! Former Arkansas EDGE Justus Boone has just announced his transfer commitment to Wisconsin, adding a significant boost to the Badgers' defensive lineup. This move is set to shake up the field, and here's what you need to know.
Boone, a 6-foot-4, 278-pound defensive end, brings a wealth of experience to Wisconsin. He spent a season at Arkansas, where he recorded 28 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and one sack while playing in all 12 games. Before his time with the Razorbacks, Boone played four seasons at Florida, accumulating 37 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. He also started two out of 26 career games in Gainesville. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2023 season due to injury, which granted him a medical redshirt, giving him another year of eligibility.
Boone's journey to Wisconsin is notable. He was a highly-touted recruit, signing with Florida as a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 183 overall player in the 2021 recruiting class. He was also the No. 18-ranked EDGE in his class and the No. 2 overall player from South Carolina.
This transfer is part of a larger trend. Boone is the seventh transfer to commit to Wisconsin since the transfer portal opened on January 2nd, and the second defensive player. In a related move, 20 former Badgers have entered the portal, including quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., who committed to North Carolina. Wisconsin quickly filled the quarterback void with a commitment from Old Dominion transfer Colton Joseph.
Speaking of Colton Joseph, he's another key player to watch. After a redshirt season in 2023, Joseph became Old Dominion's starting quarterback in 2024. As a redshirt freshman, he earned All-Sun Belt Honorable Mention honors, completing 59.9% of his passes for 1,627 yards and 11 touchdowns with only five interceptions. In the 2025 season, he led the Monarchs to a 9-3 regular season record, throwing for 2,624 yards and 21 touchdowns with just 10 interceptions, earning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt Second Team honors. Before Old Dominion, Joseph was a three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, choosing the Monarchs over schools like Air Force, Army, and Navy. Now, he'll get his chance to shine in the Big Ten Conference.
But here's where it gets controversial... The transfer portal has become a major factor in college football, and this raises questions about team stability and player development.
