Malachi Coleman, a wide receiver from Minnesota, is set to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to Pete Nakos of On3. This decision comes after two seasons with the Golden Gophers, during which he played in eight games in 2025. Coleman's performance this past season included five catches for 85 yards. His college career began at Nebraska in 2023, where he made eight catches for 139 yards and a touchdown. Prior to college, he was a highly regarded high school prospect at Lincoln East, ranked as the No. 60 overall player and No. 10 receiver by Rivals Industry Ranking. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Coleman brings valuable experience to his next stop, having played in 20 total games. Minnesota's recent success, including an 8-5 season and a victory in the Rate Bowl, has seen them reach the eight-win mark for the fifth time in eight seasons under coach PJ Fleck. However, the team faces a challenge as Coleman is the 12th player from Minnesota to enter the transfer portal this offseason, and the fifth receiver, joining Cristian Driver, Legend Lyons, Kenric Lanier, and Quentin Redding. The transfer portal's structure is changing this offseason, with a 15-day window opening on January 2 and closing on January 16. This is the only opportunity for student-athletes to enter their names, as the NCAA has eliminated the spring transfer portal window for football. The move aims to allow schools to complete their seasons before the portal opens, with athletes on College Football Playoff (CFP) teams having a 5-day window starting the day after their team's final game. This season's CFP semifinals are scheduled for January 8 and 9, followed by the CFP national championship game on January 19 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
